DATURA 1.0: Home
DATURA 1.0 is the performance/sound work of Matt Cisler.
In the 1980’s Matt was a founding member of the Minneapolis underground noise bands The Maggots and Duck Kicking Vulture He gained a reputation at the fringes of the Minneapolis Art Punk scene for his extreme muscular/minimal guitar style utilizing high volume walls of distortion and feedback. From there he went on to form the trickster industrial band Cancer Bunny. As DATURA 1.0, Matt was once a member of the internet electronic music collective TAPEGERM (www.tapegerm.com) and is a frequent contributor to the experimental/dark ambient netlabel darkwinter.com. As Datura 1.0 his work has seen a slow evolution from epic low frequency dark ambient soundscapes conceived entirely in the digital realm, to a focus on live performance, circuit bent instruments DIY synthesizers and video art.
Datura 1.0 uses electric guitars and self built circuit bent toys and toy keyboards as well as Laptop and desktop computers to both create the sounds he hears in his head and de-construct the sounds we hear in the world.
“I am interested in lucid dreaming, shamanism and ecstatic practices of all kinds for the same reasons I am interested in Music. These are all processes we can use to realize a meeting with the mystery which drives consciousness.
If we close our eyes and drift, sounds can take us to places. I am interested in examining the places and moods that can be created by sounds.”
Datura 1.0 performs live by improvising from pre-arranged structural formulas in real time using his strange toy instruments and de-tuned electric guitars processed through the computer. a live performance can run the gamut from brutal noise assaults to sublime drifting ambience.
